CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
This  chapter  contains  the  description  of  background  of  the  study, formulation  of  the  research  problem,  purpose  of  the  study,  significances  of  the study,  scope  and  limitation,  definition  of  key  terms,  and  the  organization  of  the study.
A.  Background of the Study
English  has  a  great  role  for  teacher,  student  and  also  education.  Skill  of English  has  very  important  as  communication  in  the  world  so,  the  science  gave valuation is English must give the students since they are in elementary school. It must give to the student since because more the fact can be seen in literatures or when we watch television about science world event. To understand the problem of technology  and science which  are written in English, we must master  English well  through  either  formal  or  non  formal  education  in  order  to  keep  up  with  the development countries.
English  is  one  of  the  subjects  in  school.  It  has  become  one  of  subject  in curriculum. Every school can develop it, especially in formal education.  In order to be successful in using English as a means of communication, the students have to be able for of all the language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In  addition,  they  need  to  master  various  competences  related  to  the  language?????

INTRODUCTION
In  today’s  world  the  emergence  of  modern  technology  works  together  with  our daily  routine.  Computer  is  one  of  modern  technology  that  is  assistive  and beneficial  to  create  a  more  effective  work.  In  this  digital  era,  the  role  of technology,  particularly  computer,  in  academic  setting  is  very  undeniable.  From faculty members to staffs, headmaster, teachers, students, they all have to master the basic skill of computer operation.
In  Indonesian  education  system,  students  are  taught  the  skill  of  operating computer since they are in the middle school. Students are taught the basic skill of typing,  editing,  printing, etc.  By  the  times  they  are  in  high  school,  they  have developed  a  fluency  in  typing. In  college  life  particularly,  the  lecturers  and instructors often assign students to type their tasks instead of handwrite them. The hardship  of  writing  down  word  by  word  of  sentences  of  an  essay  has  been replaced  by  the  magic  tool  of  computer.  Students  feel  more  confident  when completing  their  assignments  with  computer  rather  than  with  handwriting.  They are confident that they can gain higher score when they complete the assignment with computer rather than with hand writing
This research was conducted in an attempt to find out whether presentation effect causes  the  inequality  in  assessment  or  not.  It  is  done  through  comparing  two different  format  of  essays  which  are  identical  in  content.  The  formats  were  the original  handwritten  and  the  transcribed  computer  text  of  the  handwritten.  The computer format was chosen because the researcher admitted that the involvement of  technology  cannot  be  overstated,  therefore  this  research  was  intended  to  test?????????????????????

INTRODUCTION
This  chapter  discusses  the  background  of  the  study,  statement  of  the problem,  purpose  of  the  study,  scope  and  limitation  of  the  study,  significance  of the study, and definition of the key terms.
A.  Background of the study 
English  as  an  international  language  for  communication  has  been considered  as  an  important  subject  in  Indonesia.  All  aspects  of  language skills;  Speaking,  Listening,  Reading  and  Writing  with  structure  and vocabulary  as  supporting  materials  are  taught  at  schools  to  pursue  the objectives:  i.e.  making  the  students  master  English  (especially  speaking  and writing)  as  means  of  communication  and  (especially  reading)  as  a  tool  of gaining science and technology. 
Moreover,  English  become  the  only  foreign  language  which  is included  in  National  Examination  (UN)  from  Junior  High  School  to  Senior High  School.  Then,  it  became  one  of  some  decision  maker  subject  for  the students’ graduation to know how well they understand English during their study. Thus, learning English has been important to do. 
Based on the English curriculum, the objective of GBPP SLTP stated that the students of SLTP are expected to have some language skills, such as??????

In  relation  to  personality,  at  least  two  types  of  personalities  associated  with  the environment. In spite of it all, this is related to the personality of each individual, whether  they  are  independent  or  dependent  students.  The  differences  of  their personalities  can  happen  because  many  factors  that  influence  the  students.  The way  of  thinking,  attitude  and  also  students  personality  are  psychological  factors which  may  influence  their  achievement  in  teaching-learning  process.  Teacher professionality  in  explaining and presenting the  material may influence students’ achievement.  Besides  personality,  teachers  should  also  be  able  to  place  the students who  have  field  dependence  and  field  independence,  because  such personalities may greatly affect their achievement.
Among  the  factors  which  may  have  much  influence  on  language  learning  are cognitive and affective factors. One of the styles of learning is cognitive style that can  be  defined  as  a  term  used  in  cognitive  psychology  to  describe  the  way individuals  think,  perceive  and  remember  information  (Mulyani,  2011).  Field dependent and field independent are included in style of learning. In this research, the writer will focus her research on field independent and field dependent as one of cognitive style in style of learning.??????

A. Background of the Study
Writing is one of the English skills that must be mastered by every English learner  especially  by  the  student  of  English  Department.  Similar  to  speaking, writing is an active skill to express ideas in mind. Writing is a medium to transfer knowledge  or  to  provide  information  from  an  author  to  readers  in  the  text  form.
Writing  is  also  used  to  communicate  with  other  people  in  different  places.  This skill is different from listening and reading skills which are passive because they only serve to receive and collect information.
Writing  is  also  a  way  of  knowing,  a  method  of  discovery  and  analysis. Through  writing  we  discover  new  aspects  of  our  topic  and  our  relationship  to  it; therefore  it  is  a  task  which  is  partially  dependent  on  the  individuals,  their creativity and the way they approach each topic. Writing  well  is  not  only  an  option  for  young  people,  but  also  a  necessity especially  for  university  students.  Almost  every  day  in  their  academic  life,  they are  demanded  to  write  for  many  purposes.  Along  with  reading  comprehension,????????
